Before installing the rebuilt engine, it’s essential to first determine why the previous engine failed. Think of issues with cooling, oil supply, or contaminated components. If the root cause isn’t fixed, the same damage could happen again.
By following the instructions below carefully, you’ll extend the engine’s lifespan and meet the warranty conditions.
Steps to follow during installation:
- Compare the engines: Make sure the old and new engines match. Parts not included (such as sensors, brackets, or valve covers) must be cleaned, inspected, and transferred from the old engine.
- Replace all fluids and filters: Change the engine oil, and replace the oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter.
- Replace the entire timing kit, unless a new one has already been installed on the engine (this will be stated on the invoice). Always check the timing marks and follow the manufacturer’s instructions closely.
- Inspect oil seals: Replace them if there are any signs of wear or leakage.
- Check the pilot bearing: it if it’s worn or damaged.
- Inspect the dual-mass flywheel: Replace it if there is excessive play or abnormal noise.
- Always replace the oil cooler: In case of engine failure, the oil cooler may be internally contaminated (e.g. with metal debris or sludge). To prevent damage to the rebuilt engine, replace the oil cooler — even if it looks fine.
- Replace the intercooler if contaminated: A damaged engine may have caused internal contamination. When in doubt, replace it.
- Replace the V-belt or serpentine belt.
- Prime the engine with oil pressure: Crank the engine with the spark plugs or injectors disconnected until oil pressure builds up. Only start the engine once you’re sure oil pressure is present. If additional instructions were supplied with the engine, follow them precisely.
- Check the cooling system: Inspect for leaks and air pockets, and make sure the thermostat and cooling fan are working correctly. Bleed the system thoroughly.
Important:
These installation guidelines are part of the warranty terms. Not following them may void your warranty.
